Score!

I just got back from the Unique thrift with a big bag of wool sweaters. I want to try felting as my first project so the challenge of the day was to find sweaters that were 100% wool and not some blend of acrylic fibers. Just like when I look for yarn I am attracted to color and texture first so my brain was on overload as I entered the sweater aisle. I started with the men's section because the sweaters are generally bigger so I would have more fabric to work with. Not much there so I headed to the ladies section.
I was starting to get frustrated because all of the really fun sweaters were a yucky blend of acrylic or rayon.
Perseverance paid off and there are sweaters in the washer being felted right now.

Finally some time to work!

Next week I will finally have some time off from my hectic day job! So here's the plan: hit some thrift stores and round up some sweaters. Surely by now they've unpacked and put out the winter goods.

finding sweaters

So I forgot how hard it is to find sweaters in thrift stores when it's a hundred degrees outside! I've found a few and have brainstormed a few ideas. Stayed tuned for my first project!

The Project Begins

I want to see how many different items I can create, re-craft, up-cycle, recycle (all those good words) from 20 thrift store sweaters.

The plan is to document everything here on my blog. This is the first time I've done any blogging and I wanted to have a project or something specific to talk about. I've crafted items from discarded clothing before and have started dabbling in re-crafting vintage jewelry. I need a creative challenge to get my juices going again and thus, 20 sweaters is born.

Step one: Find 20 sweaters.
